Values
The
School believes that:
• Every student deserves the opportunity
to achieve his or her best.
Exposure to a broad-based curriculum allows students
to discover their individual strengths and the specialist
learning-support team assists students with identified
learning needs.
• The highest quality of teaching is essential
to achieve effective learning.
The school values staff professionalism and encourages
teachers to undertake additional training and development.
Regular staff reviews allow teachers to identify areas
of special interest and paths for professional development.
• Students should acquire the appropriate
knowledge and develop the relevant skills to equip them
for the present and the future.
The School ensures that the curriculum is relevant and
up-to-date while encouraging the appreciation of a wide
spectrum of human pursuits. Regular field trips by students
of all ages present very real learning experiences.
• Students should be equipped with the skills
and values to meet and enjoy the challenges, changes
and opportunities in life.
In addition to valuing individual achievement, the school
encourages students to work effectively in groups and
to accept responsibilities as valued members of the
community. As well as being responsible for the school
environment, special "Clean and Green" days
promote care for the environment and responsible
citizenship. "Friendship" days focus on relationship
management skills and the Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship
Education (PSHCE) aspect of the curriculum teaches skills
related to personal and social responsibility.
• Members of our community work more effectively
when they are happy and know they are valued.
The health and happiness of Tanglin students is a core
concern. The school promotes respect for individuals
regardless of background and respect for the rights
of others is the first principle discussed in the Students'
Code of Conduct. Pastoral care programs, the services
of counsellors as well as nurses, and close communication
between parents and the school, all nurture well balanced
and happy students.
• The safety and security of our community
are our key responsibilities.
The School has a management group that continually monitors
and reviews safety and security at the School. In addition,
we work closely with external bodies and authorities
such as the British High Commission, our security advisors
and the local police to provide a safe and secure environment.
• Members of our School community should
enjoy a strong sense of identity and a feeling of belonging.
Students from various year groups come together through
house activities, buddy days, and other special events
on the School Calendar. The School's Parent-Teacher
Association (PTA) is very active and welcomes new members
and volunteers. Parent volunteers are active in classrooms,
especially in the Infant and Junior Schools.
• Staff and students leaving Tanglin will
take with them an understanding of the international community that will enable them to be tolerant,
responsible and confident members of society.
Respect for individual differences as well as cultural
awareness and sensitivity are important aspects of a
Tanglin education.
