Field Study Trips
Two of our key aims at Tanglin Trust School are to promote effective learning and to provide a quality, relevant curriculum. In order to achieve these, field study trips form part of the school calendar at every level. These trips vary in focus and length depending on the year group and the subject under investigation.

The safety of children in our care is of paramount concern and intensive risk assessments are undertaken before any field study trip takes place. Strict safety guidelines are observed at all times. Parents of children with severe allergies are required to accompany their child on all field trips. Parent helpers are also frequently invited on excursions to assist. |
While field trips involving at least one overnight stay commence in Year 4, short excursions to destinations within Singapore, such as the zoo, Sentosa Island, Chinatown and Orchard Road, take place from Nursery. |
A fully qualified School Nurse accompanies all groups on residential excursions. An information letter together with a permission form is sent home to parents well before the departure date. No student is allowed on any excursion unless a parent returns to the School a signed permission form. |
|
The cost of day trips within Singapore is included in the School Fees, however residential field trips, which are an important feature of the Tanglin curriculum, are not. Families are charged separately for such trips and the cost includes travel insurance. |

In addition, the School offers Junior and Senior School students adventure holidays that take place during non-term time. Example of such a holiday is a ski trip to Australia for students in Years 5 to 9 and a New Zealand Adventure trip for Year 11. |
Special interest tours to destinations such as China, Korea and Malaysia are also organised for Senior Music and Drama students. Such trips are planned to enable students to attend the annual festival organised by the International Student Theatre Association (ISTA) and the Music Festival arranged by the Federation of British International Schools in South and East Asia (FOBISSEA). |
|
Sporting teams frequently compete abroad against other schools that are members of FOBISSEA. Such meets take place for Athletics, Swimming, Football, Basketball and Netball in destinations such as Thailand, Brunei and Malaysia and include SEAMaC meets. |
|
Field excursions with a History, Geography or Modern Foreign Language focus are held for students in the Senior School studying these subjects. Destinations offered in 2005 include Spain and Vietnam for students of Spanish and History respectively. |
|
In addition, our Year 11 students can do work experience in Cambodia and our Sixth Form students can choose between a self-guided Travel & Adventure Week or a Himalayan Adventure in Ladakh. In addition they can join a School organised tour to various universities in the United Kingdom during the summer break. Students working towards National Youth Achievement Awards also embark on expeditions currently organised within Malaysia. |
By offering such a wide array of excursions and holidays throughout the region and beyond, Tanglin develops in our students a better understanding of Asia and the world. Friendships are strengthened and valuable educational experiences are provided that cannot be replicated in a classroom. These excursions also build independence and provide rich opportunities for personal growth. Tanglin Trust School is so much more than a school. |
