Reception - Remembering Pacita – January 2008

Pacita Abad, late Filipino artist who resided in Singapore, had an association with Tanglin for many years.  She worked as a resident artist on a number of occasions and will continue to be a great artistic inspiration to our students and staff. Groups of Reception students have created x4 colour collages in her memory which will be hung in the Infant corridor as a semi permanent exhibition.

Y1 Artist in Residency – December 2007

Artist/designer Babette Whittacker worked with students to create a new nativity set which will be treasured by Tanglin for many years to come. Spanish Art and Culture Evening – 14th November2007

This event showcased Spanish Art and Culture, in particular, the work of Antonio Gaudi – one of the world’s most famous architects. The Senior School Art department and the Senior School Spanish department joined forces to create a unique evening that combined Spanish Tapas and wine with a mini sculpture class; a student led quiz and presentations on the life and work of Gaudi himself.

Life's a Beach - 5th October 2007

For a group of 12 Tanglin students and 3 members of staff, life was a beach on Pulau Tioman, Malaysia for the 3 days (5th -7th October 2007). Their aim was to draw, photograph and soak-in the atmosphere, where rainforest meets coral reef! This exhibition was a selection of the drawings, photographs and sketchbooks the students made. Some studies were based on their underwater experience- snorkeling; some were made as the sun went down, working between the colossal rocks on the beach. The sketchbooks were valuable records of those 3 days spent in paradise!

Seniors’ School House Day- 19th September

On Senior House Day, our Senior students went through a rotation of activities from building a raft at the pool, constructing a model based on recycling materials, brainteasers and drumming throughout the day. For the art activity, Houses divided themselves into groups and each group joined together to design and produce a collage made from previously collected coloured recyclable materials (based on their house colours), on the environmental theme of ‘Saving water.’ The houses created stunning pieces of art work (see below) that was imaginatively produced. There was a great showing of teamwork and leadership, with some wonderful artists out there showing their artistic talents.

Arts outreach programme by one-north, JTC Corp one-north: Though My Eyes- 22nd June

Singapore’s JTC Corporation, which is managing the further development of the ‘one-north’ area where Tanglin Trust School is located, organised an arts outreach programme on 22nd and 23rd of June. The event, called "one-north: Through My Eyes", aimed to foster community spirit and to encourage the public's participation in the arts. It was an opportunity for the one-north community and members of the public to express their aspirations and ideas for the one-north area through painting.

A 2.5 x 1.5m canvass was transported by truck around the one-north area during the two days and was parked at various developments within the area for any member of the public to paint on. The canvass came to Tanglin for 1.5 hours during the morning of 22nd June and Y9 students painted on it on behalf of the School. The finished canvass will soon be displayed at the Biopolis, the iconic biomedical science research and development hub in one-north.
