Forthcoming Productions Year 5 Concert- 10th – 11th March The Year 5 concert will take place at 7pm on Monday 10th March and Tuesday 11th March in the Performing Arts Hall located on the 5th floor of the new Sports and Performing Arts Centre. Access is via the sky bridge from the 4th floor of the Junior School building. The students will be performing an abridged concert version of the musical ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’. Year 3 Concert – 12th -13th March The Year 3 concert will take place on Wednesday 12th March and Thursday 13th March at 6.30pm in the Performing Arts Hall located on the 5th floor of the new Sports and Performing Arts Centre. Access is via the sky bridge from the 4th floor of the Junior School building. The concert, ‘Hit The Road Jack’ will feature performances based on travel to other countries. |

| Tanglin Concert: 26th – 27th February |
The highlight of the School’s annual musical calendar, the Tanglin Concert, was held on 26th and 27th February in the Performing Arts Hall on level 5 of our new Sports and Performing Arts Building. The evening featured performances from the School’s many musical ensembles, bands and choral groups, as well as a solo performed by the winner of the Tanglin Senior Young Musician of the Year Anahita Forughian. |

Junior Musicians in Concert – 19th February |
The Tanglin Junior Musicans in Concert event took place at the Esplanade Recital Hall on the evening of 19th February and featured performances by the finest musicians from our Junior School. | CHINGAY PARADE OF DREAMS 2008: 15th – 16th February |
Some 75 Tanglin students - 32 musicians and 43 dancers - represented Tanglin in Singapore’s colourful Chingay Parade of Dreams 2008, held on the evening of Saturday 16th February. It was the first time that Tanglin Trust School participated in this high-profile parade, which is an annual event held as part of Chinese New Year festivities. Tanglin entered a dramatic float inspired by Indonesian culture that featured musicians who performed “Fantasia” a fusion of gamelan and Middle Eastern music. The dancers, dressed in dramatic winged costumes, performed around the vehicle. The dancers and musicians were Tanglin students from Years 2 to 12. |

The parade route was roughly 1.5 km long and there were five performance points where the float and dancers stopped for two minutes to perform in front of VIPs. We congratulate everyone involved in the creation of the float and the performance, especially the artistic directors, Senior School teacher Kirstie Wilson, music teacher Caroline Francis and Tanglin parent Soheila Forughian. |

| Festival of Music –7th December |
Our seasonal Festival of Music was held on 7th December at St. Georges Church. This event was a Tanglin community concert, which involved parents, teachers, staff, tutors and alumni who performed alongside students. The repertoire for the evening involved a wide variety of congregational carols, seasonal songs and a selection of instrumental music. Traditional “festive” refreshments were served after the concert. |

| Y2 Concert – 4th December |
Year 2 children celebrated the traditional nativity story in their Christmas Concert on 4th December. The students re-enacted the nativity through narration, acting, songs (in English and Malay), dances, musical instruments and even a rap. |

| Year 6 Concert – 19th to 20th November |
Year 6 students presented music from Cats in the School’s Griffith Jones Hall on 19th and 20th November, at 7pm. Cats is an award-winning musical composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber based on Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats and other poems by T. S. Eliot. The show has been performed around the world in numerous productions and has been translated into more than 20 languages. Congratulations to all involved in this most impressive production. |

| Year 4 Concert – 22nd to 23rd November |
The Year 4 concert was held in the School’s Griffith Jones Hall on Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd of November at 7pm. Students in Year 4 performed “Colour My World” a concert with vocal, dance and instrumental items based on a colour theme. |

| Tanglin’s Young Musician of the Year – 13th November |
The final of the Tanglin Young Musician of the Year was held on 13th November in the Meeting Room on Level 3. More than 35 students entered the preliminary round and the standard of performance was very high, with entries on most orchestral instruments, voice and guitar. Seventeen students were selected for the final providing the audience with a variety of music from Albinoni to Eric Clapton and Chopin to Kabalevsky.

Commendations were awarded to Frederik Woebs, Hilary Samuels, Tamsin Samuels, Emma Banus and Marco Francis. The winner was Anahita Forughian who played and sang her own composition “Innocent Intention” and which will be performed as part of the Tanglin Concert in Term 2. |

This year's Tanglin Concert, sponsored by Visa, was a fabulous presentation of a broad range of music by students from our Infant, Junior and Senior Schools, In addition to students, the choir comprised Tanglin parents, staff and friends of the School. A highlight of the 3rd July Tanglin Concert was a solo performance by the winner of the Tanglin Young Musician of the Year Competition, Isabella Maria Budianto, who played the electric guitar. At the end of the evening, our CEO Steven Andrew congratulated everyone in the performance and thanked the School's music staff as well as the event's main sponsor, Visa. |

| Senior School Concert |
Parents, teachers, students and friends of Tanglin gathered in the Griffith Jones Hall on 14th March to witness performances by 15 different musical ensembles in this year’s Senior School Concert. There were performances of pop songs, Gamelan pieces, Celtic music, choral items and other musical genres in an hour and a half of musical indulgence. |

The students in each item conducted themselves professionally and looked very comfortable on stage. Two professional jazz musicians from Singapore, who are now working as instrumental tutors at Tanglin, performed smooth jazz music prior to the start of the event. Well done to all involved! |
| Tanglin Young Musician of the Year 2007 |
Sixth Form student Isabella Budianto won The Tanglin Young Musician of the Year Competition, which was held on 8th March 2007, with her rendition of Pachelbel’s Canon on the electric guitar. A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon of impressive musicianship concluded with six other students being awarded commendations. These awarded were presented to Anahita Forughian, Megan Roberts, Tsui-Mou Hsiao, Matt Mackay, Hilary Samuals and Tamsin Samuels. The winner, Miss Budianto, will have the opportunity to perform on the main stage of the Esplanade Concert Hall on 3rd July 2007 at the Tanglin Concert. She will also have her name engraved on a shield as the third recipient of this award. This year’s competition was judged by two visiting musicians and educators: Mr Terry Moran and Dr Thomas Manhart. |

2006 marked the School’s eighth Tanglin Concert – a very auspicious one therefore, making it even more special for students, staff, parents and Friends of Tanglin to have performed in this world-class venue. With a wide variety of genres, the evening’s performance offered something to suit everybody’s taste, and hopefully all involved will remember this wonderful experience and look back on it with pride in years to come. |

Visiting Musicians from Gambia |
We were very excited to welcome Maitre Samsou (a world-class master drummer) along with his accompanist Dianne Camara to Tanglin. They were here for seven days during which they conducted an intensive set of master-classes with ‘Bang On!’, Tanglin’s African Drumming Circle. Their visit culminated in a 10 minute segment in the heart of the Tanglin Concert with drumming, singing African songs and dancing. |
| Junior Concerts of Music at Victoria Concert Hall - 7th to 10th March |
Students in Year 3 and Year 4 performed "What Kids Can Do To Save the Planet", a musical performance with an environmental theme, at the Victoria Concert Hall on 7th and 8th March at 7pm. |
The concerts performed by students from Year 5 and Year 6, on 9th and 10th March, had a Motown theme and also began at 7pm. The children performed with skill and enthusiasm and the evenings were enjoyed by friends and family members. The School would like to thank the parents responsible for the stage design and decoration, the operations team for arranging the logistics, members of the Music staff for achieving such a high level of musicality, and for the support of parents who encouraged their children and attended the concerts. |

| Senior School Ensembles Concert The Senior School Ensembles Concert saw Tanglin students performing alongside those from Brunei’s Jerudong International School, which is also a member of the Federation of British International Schools in South and East Asia (FOBISSEA). The collaboration was a huge success with staff and students from both schools performing a series of works from a wide range of musical styles. The extensive repertoire challenged all the students involved in the performance and emphasised the wealth of musical talent at each school. The two Musical Directors for the event, Mr Curran from Tanglin and Mr Edgeler from Jerudong, thanked everyone involved for their support and said that they intend to promote this style of collaboration throughout the FOBISSEA Music Circle. |
| Tanglin Young Musician Of The Year 2006 |
Sixth Form drumming student Matthew Cooper has won Tanglin Trust School’s Young Musician of the Year Competition 2006. More than 20 students competed for the title and the honour of performing solo at the School’s annual Concert of Music to be held at the Esplanade Concert Hall on 3rd July. The winner will also have his name engraved on a shield as the second recipient of this prestigious award. |

The judges found choosing a winner to be no easy task. While deliberations were taking place, Miss Andrea Loveday and Mr Alan Crawford delighted the audience with a performance of Jean Francais’ ‘Cinq Danses Exotiques’ and Dave McGarry’s ‘Dreams of You’ for Alto Sax and Piano. Congratulations to all our students who participated in the event. It was a very enjoyable evening of music that demonstrated the wealth and variety of talent we have at Tanglin. We look forward to welcoming even more students to the competition in 2007. | Festival of Music |
Tanglin's Seasonal Festival of Music, featuring traditional Christmas songs and carols, put the audience of Tanglin students, parents, staff and friends in the Christmas mood. The event was held on Friday 9th December in the atmospheric setting of St. George's Church. |

This year, Tanglin's Senior Choir and Adult Camerata performed Charpentier's 'Messe De Minuit', accompanied by Tanglin's Chamber Orchestra. The Junior Choir, Tanglin Wind Band, Early Music Consort and Tanglin Symphony Orchestra were among the ensembles that performed during the evening of fine music.
After the concert, festive refreshments were served, and the Tanglin Saxaphone Quartet and Clarinet Trio performed for guests. The Seasonal Festival of Music was a heart-warming and memorable concert, which was very well attended and enjoyed by the School community. |
| Year 2 Christmas Concert |
The Year 2 children celebrated the traditional nativity story in their Christmas Concert on Tuesday 6th December. The students thoroughly enjoyed themselves, re-enacting the nativity through narration, acting, songs (in English and Malay), poems, dances, a percussion band performance and even a rap! The performance was a great success, enjoyed by all. |
| Year 1 Christmas Concerts |
Thursday 8th December saw two performances at the School of The Innkeepers Breakfast by Year 1 Students. In their show, the children combined narration, song and dance to tell the story of a very busy innkeeper, who becomes increasingly disgruntled as each time he sits down to eat his breakfast he is interrupted by a knock at the door from one of the traditional Christmas characters. The performances were a resounding success with family, friends and fellow students all joining in the fun. |
| FOBISSEA Music Festival |
Twenty Tanglin students and two teachers flew to Brunei in November to take part in the Music Festival organised by the Federation of British International Schools in South and East Asia (FOBISSEA) and hosted by the International School of Brunei (ISB). The festival involved three days of rehearsals at the International Convention Centre followed by a performance at ISB. The gala dinner and concert was held in the lavish surroundings of the Empire Hotel, which has its own concert hall. The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience of working with young people from other schools and participating in the gala performance. |

Senior School Soloists’ Concert |
The Senior School Soloists’ Concert took place in Hall 3 on 27th October from 5pm to 6pm. The concert featured vocal and instrumental soloists as well as some small ensembles (saxophone quartet and clarinet trio). Styles such as soul, baroque, classical and jazz were showcased. The concert was well attended by families, friends, staff and students. |

| 80th Anniversary Concert |
Our 80th Anniversary Concert, held on 30th June 2005 at Singapore’s Esplanade Concert Hall, the premier music performance venue in the region, was an outstanding success and the most ambitious musical event ever to be staged by our School. The evening featured a 100-piece orchestra, a choir of 500 voices and a solo by Tanglin’s inaugural Young Musician of the Year, Year 7 harpist, Sara Koay Ji Yen. |

We also had musicians from the Royal Northern College of Music performing alongside our Infant, Junior and Senior School students. Precious memories are made at Tanglin and this special night was unforgettable. |
Other programme highlights included the Anniversary Orchestra and Choir’s presentation of Carmina Burana, and Macrou, performed by our traditional African rhythms and drums band, Bang-On! The School’s String Orchestra also performed an outstanding flute concerto by Haydn. |

More than 1,000 people attended the concert, including the British High Commissioner, HE Alan Collins, and his wife. Also present was the Member of Parliament for Tanjong Pagar, Mr Chay Wai Chuen, and his wife, as well as representatives from the corporate sector, leading clubs and associations in Singapore and past and present members of the Tanglin community. |
