27students traveled to Bangkok to compete at the FOBISSEA Games (26-29 May) organised by Bangkok Patana School, on behalf of the Federation of British International Schools in South and East Asia (FOBISSEA). This was a tremendous opportunity for our students, as they competed against the very best athletes across South East Asia in: athletics, swimming, basketball, netball or football. |
Our athletes and swimmers demonstrated great sportsmanship and talent, and they were rewarded with many individual medals. On the track and field events, our girls’ team proved a force to be reckoned with and was always on the heels of Bangkok Patana School, who proved to be very strong on home ground. In the pool, both our girls and boys excelled and along with many gold, silver and bronze medals we also won gold in all off the relay events with Patana coming a close 2nd. |
| The Tanglin teams demonstrated great teamwork and again many medals were won in the team activities. |

We all had a fantastic time and our students gave 100% in all sporting activities. We wish to pay tribute to our staff (Miss Stevenson, Miss Hall, Dr Ranford and Nurse Jenny) and to so many parents for their commitment and support of the children in training in preparation for the games, as well as to our students who have trained hard with our PE staff (Miss Stevenson, Mrs Raymond, Mr Pearce, Mr Rawlings, Mr Hatton-Burke and Harry) and in their own time for hours and hours to reach the peak at just the right time. |
| ANZA Athletics Awards Night 2006/2007 |
Miss Stevenson was once again delighted to be asked to present certificates at the ANZA Athletics Annual Awards night on Friday May 4. ANZA Athletics attracts children from all international schools around Singapore; and there is a very large presence from Tanglin Trust School. Emphasis is on participation, encouragement and friendly competition and the awards evening recognised each of the children in age groups from 5 to 15 years for their ability to better their own performances in both track and field events. |
|
Additional awards are given to those athletes with outstanding levels of achievement. This year’s season finale saw an unprecedented number of medals awarded to children consistently exceeding their own times, distances and heights. |
|
One of our senior students, David Ranford, was presented with a plaque in recognition for his coaching skills where he ran a series of both track and field events throughout the season. David, who has just completed his GCSE PE, was also coaching an ANZA U8’s football team this season www.anzasoccer.com.
|
ANZA athletics takes place every Friday from 5pm -7pm. The combination of fun and athletic sports makes for a rewarding way to enjoy two hours of family time on Friday evenings!
Should you require further information on ANZA Athletics please contact athletics@anza.org.sg

Nursery Sports Day was just wonderful, as always. It was a fun filled morning where each child was actively involved throughout. Everyone was a winner in Nursery as they start with a rosette they have coloured. The children were taken round the circuit by their parents to show off all the skills they have learnt during their Nursery year. After each activity they collect a sticker and when they have achieved all twelve they returned to the classroom for a well earned ice cream. |

Senior Sports Day
The Senior Sports Day was very successful. Despite the extremely hot weather, the competition was strong. The Singapore Polytechnic stadium was a great venue and the quality facilities contributed to a range of school track and field records being broken. Thanks are due to the students for competing and supporting their Houses so well, parents for their support, staff for officiating and the PE team for planning and running such a slick event. Cameron was the eventual overall winner.
Year 5 and 6 Sports Day
The Year 5 and 6 Sports day held at the Singapore Polytechnic Stadium was a great success. The students ran, jumped, pulled and sweated all afternoon for their Houses. In the end, Elang emerged as the overall winner. Thanks are due to the staff in the PE department for their very effective work in organising the games, the Junior School teachers for their support and skilled work in preparing children and running events and to the many parents who have helped out.
Our Year 3 and 4 children enjoyed a highly successful Sports Day at Singapore Polytechnic Stadium. A huge thanks to Mr. Andrews and the P.E. team and to all the teachers and support staff that helped to play a part in the event. It was lovely to see so many parents attending and cheering for their children |

36 of our Junior School children flew to Bangkok to participate in games organised by the Federation of British International Schools in South and East Asia (FOBISSEA). This was a tremendous opportunity for our children, as they competed against the very best athletes across South East Asia with a superb attitude and a determination to succeed which led them to win many individual and team events. We are enormously proud of all the children who took part in the games, and of all those who tried their best to make the team in the school trials earlier this year. Their results are very impressive, please click here to see the results overview and the results in full can be viewed here. |
We wish to pay tribute to our staff and to so many parents for their commitment and support of the children in training in preparation for the games, as well as to the wonderful children who have trained hard with our PE staff and in their own time for hours and hours to reach the peak at just the right time. |

This was a Swimming Gala that emphasised the joy of swimming and participating in a team event rather than on competitive swimming. The Gala attracted 70 students from Year 5 and approximately 50 students from Year 6. Events included a Tyre Race, Raft Race, Hat Race and Life Jacket Race. It ran from 4.00 to 6.30 pm on 3rd May at the School pool and a large group of parents came as spectators.
Students made up teams of 5 swimmers and gave their team a name. Individuals participated in the events of their choice. Parents helped organise and run the gala and all swimmers received a small prize at the end of the event. Points were added up and are listed below. |

Reception Sports Day this year was held over two days on 28th and 30th March. All of the children performed exceptionally well, showing off their athletic skills and teamwork to a very proud audience of parents, friends, helpers and teachers. |
|
The children initially completed a carousel of four activities as a whole class, which emphasised the fun nature of sport. They then competed in the individual 25m Sprint and also in a Teddy Bears’ Picnic Relay against children from other classes.
Parents and spectators were encouraged to move around the event areas to watch the children performing. Everyone enjoyed the morning and, most importantly, the children all enjoyed showing off some of the skills and games they have learnt this year.
Sports Day would not run well without the support and effort of all the teachers, teaching assistants, operations and support staff. Special congratulations must go to the teachers in charge, Rob Heath and Dean Pearce, and to the children for their effort and focused attention. |
Year 1 Sports Day
Year 1 Sports Day took place at the School over two mornings on 22nd and 23rd March from 8.15am to 9.30am. All students participated in a carousel of games taught in their PE lessons. These included: Bad Ball; Stuck in the Mud; King’s Treasure; 1v1 Hoops Game; and Bat and Ball Dribble Relay. The students also participated in a sprint race and obstacle relays. At the end of the morning, the children were tired, but they enjoyed the events and were especially pleased to receive a rosette of participation from the Head of the Infant School, Mrs. Geraldine Chandran. |
Year 2 Sports day
Year 2 Sports day was re-run at TTS on Mon and Wed this week due to the storm which forced the event at Clementi to be cancelled. Four classes came on each day and each child completed a 50m sprint race against children from the other classes. Every child received a ‘Well done” rosette after completing the race. They also ran an 8 person shuttle relay race against each class which was very exciting. |
On Saturday 18th March, we had 4 students representing Tanglin for a swim meet at the Singapore Sports School.
The highlight of the event was a 4 x 50m freestyle relay between Singapore Sports School, The Indian School, Australian International School, United World College and Tanglin Trust School. The students also had the opportunity to meet and talk to HRH the Duke of Edinburgh. |
|
A team of 23 Tanglin students from Years 5 to 8 recently participated in Singapore's annual Japanese Swim Meet at Clementi Swimming Complex. All Tanglin students swam superbly, many of them attaining personal best times. Medals were won in many individual events and almost all of the Tanglin relay teams were placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in their respective events. A great performance from swimmers from Tanglin Trust School. |
|
In Brunei last month, our team of 27 Under 15 athletes performed very well in the Games organised by the Federation of British International Schools in South and East Asia (FOBISSEA). Tanglin convincingly won gold in the Girls Basketball (semi final: Patana and final: Jakarta) and Girls Football, bronze in Boys Football and second overall in the girls swimming competition. |
Students also won a range of individual medals in both swimming and athletics with our TTS boys and girls dominating both in the track and field events. Congratulations to all involved and to the staff of our PE Department along with Mr Graves, Dr Ranford and Mrs Raymond. |
|
|
The aim of FOBISSEA is to promote the best in terms of good practice modeled on the British education system and to create opportunities for students from member schools to come together and share programmes of sporting and cultural activities. It is a very exciting opportunity for our Yr 9 and 10 athletes and we look forward with enthusiasm to attending the Games in Brunei. |
On November 13 our Senior PE students were addressed by motivational speaker, Henry Wanyoike, who ten years ago, awoke one morning to discover he had lost his sight. Due to amazing courage and resolve, Mr. Wanyoike is now a world track champion and Olympic gold medallist. To read more about this amazing man, please click here. |
|
A total of 20 students from years 7 and 8 attended the recent Under 13 FOBISSEA Games in Brunei. Once again, Tanglin was a dominant force, with students representing the school superbly, both on and off the sports field. Competition in the football and basketball categories was fierce, not made any easier by a gruelling schedule. |
|
Amongst the many highlights, Tanglin claimed over all Gold in the girl’s basketball finals beating Bangkok Patana in a nail biting finish, by just one point. On the same day a single goal separated the same two schools in the boy’s football final with Patana, this time, gaining the upper hand.
Other notable games results were the boy’s basketball team finishing as plate Silver medallists. A great result considering the tired legs from the previous day.
Similarly there were some outstanding individual and team relay performances in track and field, and in the swimming pool. Details of these will be published on our website shortly.
All student representatives are to be congratulated on their conduct throughout the event. |
Tanglin Trust School's Swimming Team, comprising more than 60 students from the Junior and Senior Schools, has competed recently in galas at other international schools in Singapore as well as in Brunei in the competition organised by the Federation of British International Schools in South and East Asia (FOBISSEA). The team has performed very well, winning many events and achieving personal best records. |
|
The School has also held house-based Swimming Galas for students in Year 3, Year 4, Key Stage 3, and Key Stages 4 and 5. These were won by Beruang, Singa, Raeburn and Wessex respectively.
The Year 5 and Year 6 Swimming Galas will be held in Term 2. Next term, the School Swimming Team will train to compete in additional inter-school swimming competitions in Singapore. |
International Rugby Training
|
The British Army Germany Rugby Team visited our School over half-term to run a special rugby training session. They were in Singapore to compete in the Singapore Cricket Club's International Rugby 7s the following weekend. Over 40 students, 20 parents and 20 British Army personnel attended the session, which concluded with a Tanglin Dad's vs. British Army Germany match. Sincere thanks to British Army Germany for taking the session, and we look forward to seeing them again next year. |
|
Year 5 and 6 Sports Day was held on 4th July 2005 at Clementi Stadium. Track events included 75m, 100m, 600m, 800m and the 4x100m relay. There were also field events, including ball throw, long jump, high jump, shuttle relay and tug-of-war, as well as other fun activities for the students from our Junior School.
|
|
Our youngest students had their Sports Day on 30th June 2005 from 9.15am to 10.15am at the School. This event was held in the School’s indoor sporting halls as the weather was inclement. The children performed a variety of physical activities and routines, such as moving through an obstacle course, climbing and jumping, balancing, as well as throwing and catching.
|
|
Every student received a sticker at the conclusion of each circuit and parents moved with them from one event to another. The parents were then invited back to the Nursery unit, for ice-lollies and an open morning |
Junior School students from Years 3 and 4 participated in a “Mini-Olympics” sporting event at Clementi Stadium on Friday 10th June 2005 from 2pm to 5pm. All students took part in a circuit made up of four compulsory activities - high jump, ball throw, shuttle relay and standing triple jump.
|
These performances demonstrated the skills they have learned in Physical Education classes in Term 3. There were also specialist events where boys and girls competed separately. Students took part in one of the following events - long jump, tug-of-war, a 75m sprint or a 600m run. Competitors scored points for their house and the winner was Elang with 211 points. |
|
Our Senior Sports Day was also held at the end of May 2005 at Clementi Stadium. Students from Year 7 through to Year 10 showed their competitive spirit throughout the track and field events. Track events included relays and individual running events over a range of distances and the field events included long jump, triple jump, high jump, javelin and tug o’ war. |
|
Gavin Hastings and members of the Scotland Sevens squad visited Tanglin to host a special rugby training session in April 2005.
Over 80 enthusiastic students representing Tanglin’s Under 10’s, Under 12’s, Under 14’s and Under 18’s teams were part of the coaching session.
|
|
Two signed rugby balls were part of a draw for one lucky student from the Junior and Senior School respectively. In addition, a Tanglin rugby shirt signed by the squad will be framed and displayed at the School. |
We recently received a message from Gavin, in which he said:
“Good luck to everyone at the School, and pass on our thanks to the students who made the players job that much easier with their enthusiasm and effort”.
A special thanks to Gavin and the Team as well as to Steve Dunlop and Yvette Fell from Agrekko for making the day happen. |
