Senior School
Welcome message from Head of School
The Tanglin experience is a challenging range of academic, sporting, artistic and cultural opportunities designed to engage students and prepare them for the demands of life beyond school. Our success is based on excellent relationships between all members of the community, a positive school ethos and outstanding leadership at all levels.
We hope that you will join us to be part of that experience.
Neil Turrell,
Head of Senior School

Impressive academic results
In our Senior School, there is a well established culture of highly valuing academic success. Our impressive academic results place us in the top tier of schools in the United Kingdom, both comprehensive and independent, and have consistently allowed our graduates to enter the university of their choice, including Oxford and Cambridge, as well as other prestigious institutions worldwide. For Tanglin seniors, it's unquestionably 'cool to be clever'.As students progress through Key Stages 3 to 5 of the National Curriculum of England, they are presented with a widening choice of subjects that are taught by our dedicated team of subject specialists. In Year 7, for example, students select from European (French, Spanish and German), Asian (Mandarin) or Classical (Latin) languages. Moving forward to Key Stage 4 or the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE), examination subjects such as Business Studies and Physical Education are added to the programme. At Key Stage 5 or Sixth Form, options include Psychology, Government and Politics, as well as Economics.
From September 2009, we will also be offering Tanglin Sixth Form students the choice to study for A Level or the International Baccalaureate Diploma. We recognise that our students have different aspirations and influences; some might have chosen their subjects and their dream career years ago; others might be much less certain about their future direction. We want to be able to offer them choice: to follow the path that is right for them and which best matches their individual strengths and interests.
We already share a deep empathy with the aims and structure of the International Baccalaureate, which are to produce critical thinkers, lifelong learners and informed participants in local and global affairs. At Tanglin we encourage our students to feel curious about the world around them and to look forward to taking up their place as confident and happy world citizens, whatever path they choose to follow. We are proud to be able to offer both learning pathways through to university.
Supportive relationships
An outstanding feature of our Senior School is the supportive relationships that exist between students and staff and among the students themselves. On graduation, students consistently comment on the tremendous help and encouragement they received from their peers and our dedicated teachers. Through on-going relationships with form tutors and the close personal attention given to students by specialist staff, our knowledge of each student's abilities and aptitudes is exceptional. This enables the School to provide all students with personalised academic and pastoral support, which is a key ingredient in their high levels of achievement.A positive approach to change
We are proud of the dynamic atmosphere that characterises our Senior School, where individuality, initiative, independence, self expression and involvement are prized. While respecting tradition, our seniors are forward looking and have a genuine desire to be actively involved in change as a positive process. They have remarkable opportunities to take part in a broad range of sporting and arts related co-curricular activities and can participate in field study excursions to destinations such as Vietnam, India, Malaysia, Cambodia and India that further broaden their personal horizons.
Drawing on the cultural and gender mix of the School's population, our seniors are highly culturally aware and take their global citizenship responsibilities very seriously and are involved in a range of charity projects throughout Asia.
