Senior School

The Senior School Student Council comprises volunteers from Years 7 to 13. The group meets every 3 weeks to discuss a wide range of issues including catering, transport and tutor structures. The meetings are attended by the Head of the Senior School.

Students from Years 7, 8 and 9 can apply to the Assistant Head of Key Stage 3 to become a member of the Senior School Social Committee. In their application, students should outline what they can do for the School, where they see their strengths lying and how they could make a valuable contribution to the Social Committee. Approximately 15 to 20 students are selected to work on the Committee and other student helpers are enlisted to work on specific events. The Social Committee meets throughout the year, with the initial meeting involving all members and subsequent meetings organised in Year Groups. Within Key Stage 3, there are a total of nine social events every year. At the end of the year, students who serve on this committee are presented with a certificate.

A house system also runs in our Senior School with the four houses named after locations in Singapore and Malaysia where what is now Tanglin Trust School once had campuses. The four houses are: Wessex, Alexandra, Cameron and Raeburn.

Year 12 and Year 13 students can apply at the start of the School year to their respective Head of House to become a House Captain. In their applications, students should outline how they can contribute to their house and the School, what their individual strengths are and why they would make a good House Captain. The staff member who is Head of House then selects House Captains and Vice Captains, one male and one female respectively, based on merit. These student leaders then work with the Head of House to organise a range of events during the School year.

In the Senior School, each of the four houses elects a Year Group Representative from Years 7 to 11. These representatives also work with the Head of House and assist in arranging events. They can also pass ideas onto the House Captains and Vice Captains.
