Sport is an integral part of the Tanglin curriculum. Our goal is to involve, excite and motivate our students to participate in sport. We offer a vibrant, exciting programme involving a large percentage of the student body and we provide a wide range of competitive and non-competitive events to encourage maximum participation, individual aspiration, squad achievement and personal excellence.
Athletics, basketball, swimming, football, rugby and netball have been identified as 'core' sports at Tanglin. The majority of these are well
established activities that already have well-developed training programmes in place and offer participants the opportunity to compete in inter-school events, both in Singapore as well as overseas. Tennis, gymnastics and cricket are considered to be developing core sports in which we have already begun to make considerable progress. For detailed information regarding current fixtures and results for each core sport, please click on the buttons on the left.
We actively encourage Sports Leaders and these students are progressively more and more involved in the management of the activities as they progress through the School. Sports Leaders Awards are also bestowed in an aim to develop life skills such as leadership, organisation and confidence building.
Excellence and commitment are also rewarded in the programme through the awarding of School Colours. These are awarded in each of the core sports activities.
Sports days are a key feature of the School calendar. These events aim to foster a love of sport and as many students as possible participate in these events. We operate a house system in both the Junior and Senior Schools and inter-house competitions are regular features. Fun events such as swimming galas are also held in the Junior School and promote participation rather than the competitive element of sport.
In addition to the organised PE activities, the School also operates an extensive collection of other activities and sports through it’s Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) and Sports & Recreation Club (SRC) programmes. These offer a range of recreational and non-competitive sports clubs for the student body.
Regular competitions against other international schools in the region are also organised by the Federation of British International Schools in South and East Asia (FOBISSEA). This programme now forms an integral part of each participating school’s sporting calendar.
We participate in the South East Student Activity Conference (SEASAC). This competition is open to students in Y10 and above. However, some exceptional younger students may also be invited to trial for specific competitions. Being a member of SEASAC gives Tanglin students further opportunities to participate in prestigious international events throughout the year.
We are also members of ACSIS (Athletic Conference Singapore International Schools): This is a competitive league here in Singapore, which comprises of 20 International schools, 5 age groups ranging from Under 10’s to Under 19”s. Twelve sports are played and tournaments are run in each age group for each sport.
All information is regularly updated on the ACSIS website at http://www.acsis.com.sg
