At Tanglin, we are an inclusive learning environment and believe that each child is entitled to a curriculum that facilitates their individual development and support which allows them to achieve their full academic potential. Most of the time, the learning needs of our students can be met by class teachers. However, at certain stages along their learning journey some students may need curriculum modification or specific intervention.
When a child in the Infant School experiences challenges that require additional support, our experienced Learning Support Team will work closely with classroom teachers and, where necessary, the school’s education psychologist to ensure a collaborative approach in providing the right level of support for that individual. This might involve ensuring a child sits close to the teacher to help attention and focus, or uses a pencil grip to aid letter formation. The Learning Support teacher may support a small group in a quieter environment to focus on developing appropriate listening and communication skills or reading, writing and number skills. Some children need extended individual support which would include one to one lessons with the Learning Support teacher or within the Learning Support Extended Provision.
