British-based Learning with an International Perspective

Reporting to Parents

We are constantly seeking to strengthen our partnership with parents and one of the ways we do this is through reporting to parents and actively involving parents in their children’s learning. At the start of the year, we have orientation sessions for new families; these are repeated termly for those new to Tanglin. We also have Information Evenings for all parents in August; this is an opportunity for parents to meet the new class teacher and to find out about the year group routines, special events and expectations.

Throughout the year we have a series of open sessions, half termly for the Early Years Foundation Stage (Nursery & Reception) and at the end of each term for Key Stage 1 (Years 1 & 2) where children are encouraged to share their learning informally with their parents. Next steps or targets are also shared half termly with Early Years Foundation Stage parents who are asked to contribute and feedback. This further strengthens the home/school link.

We also have more formal Parent Teacher Conferences in October and again in March. This is an opportunity for parents to meet with their child’s class teacher on an individual basis and review their child’s learning and next steps.

Progress Reports are written for Key Stage 1 children at the end of Term 1 and all children receive a summative report in June.

We have identified the structured opportunities for parents to meet with teachers, however, we do have an open door policy in that teachers are always available to meet with parents at a mutually convenient time throughout the year and discuss any concerns they may have.
