British-based Learning with an International Perspective

Senior School

I am delighted to welcome you to the Senior School. As you explore our website, I have no doubt that you will be enthralled by the range of opportunities that are available for students, teachers and parents too. The Senior School prides itself on the exceptional academic achievements of our students where each is provided with the individual care, guidance and counselling offered by our robust pastoral structure. Every child is nurtured and cared for in the Senior School to ensure they are happy and balanced and enjoy their learning experience. We aim to ensure that for each and every Tanglin student achieving potential is the norm and exceeding expectations commonplace.

The Senior School accepts students from our own Junior School and is also open to applications into Key Stage 3 (Years 7, 8 and 9), Key stage 4 (Years 10 and 11) and our Sixth Form (Years 12 and 13) although entry into Year 11 and Year 13 is unusual and generally not recommended. Students enjoy developing essential skills in English, Mathematics, Science, Computing and Languages as well as having every opportunity to explore their passion for Humanities, the Arts and Physical Education. As our students work towards Year 9, they are guided in making choices for GCSE and IGCSE courses with external examinations normally taken at the end of Year 11. Students then have the opportunity to select either the A Level or IB pathway in Years 12 and 13 with this choice being unique in Singapore schools. All of our subjects and courses are taught and supported by highly qualified and experienced professionals who work hard to ensure each and every child achieves their best.

Learning technologies are fully embedded into the curriculum with students in Years 7 to 11 using iPads for individual research purposes and identified subject applications. Sixth Form students have more flexibility with regard to the device they use with technology also playing a major part in post 16 courses. As well as course specifications, students also develop transferable learning skills and refined attitudes to learning to ensure they are organised, resilient, can work both independently and collaboratively, have opportunities to be creative and thrive on challenging themselves and working outside of their comfort zones.

The Tanglin Learner Profile ensures that it’s not just about ‘what’ students learn at Tanglin but also ‘how’ they learn. The ability to communicate, think, research and reflect are further enhanced through a range of activities, specialisms, exchange opportunities, expeditions and community service projects. Access to high performing sports teams, music ensembles, productions, art exhibitions and film making are all available at Tanglin Senior School with further opportunities in Design Technology on the near horizon. Challenging expeditions to the Himalayas and service opportunities in Ladakh are just two examples of the huge range of wider experiences available here.

Tanglin produces outstanding citizens who can make responsible and informed choices; have developed strategies and reserves to cope and face challenges with determination; contribute positively to an ever-changing and challenging world; show tolerance, patience and understanding towards others; demonstrate clearly defined values, a diligent work ethic and leadership attributes that can guide individuals, communities and societies towards solutions and a better place.

I am extremely proud to lead the Senior School at Tanglin Trust Singapore; a positive and nurturing learning environment where dreams can be weaved and futures secured.
