Foundation Stage – 3 to 5 years of age |
The Foundation Stage covers the period of learning for children in Tanglin Trust School’s Nursery and Reception. The curriculum is presented in a rich, stable, caring and effective environment that enables each child to realise their cognitive, social, emotional, and physical potential and to develop his or her aesthetic awareness. It extends a child’s range of learning experiences beyond that which can be easily provided within the family. |

The Foundation Stage curriculum is taught in ways that build on a child’s curiosity, enabling them to learn through planned worthwhile play activities. It provides opportunities for them to explore, be imaginative, plan and reflect on experiences. There are six areas of learning that comprise the curriculum’s framework, however every aspect of the curriculum is interrelated. These six areas are: personal, social and emotional development; language and literacy; mathematical development; knowledge and understanding of the world; physical development; and creative development. Key Stage 1 – 5 to 7 years |
The core subjects covered in Key Stage 1 are: English; mathematics; science; and information and communication technology (ICT). The foundation subjects are: history; geography; art and design; music; and physical education. In addition, from September 2008, the students will study Chinese as a modern foreign language from Reception. |

Students also study personal, social, health and citizenship education (PSHCE). The study of PSHCE is important at Tanglin as the School aims to develop independent, confident, tolerant and responsible young people who have an understanding of the world in which they live. National Curriculum Tests are administered at the end of Key Stage 1 to show a student’s performance on a particular day at the end of the Key Stage.
