  1. What is TTS Foundation?
TTS Foundation was established in 2012 to support Tanglin Trust School.  It does this by funding exceptional opportunities and providing members of the Tanglin community with life-changing experiences so that they can contribute with confidence to our world. TTS Foundation is a company Limited by guarantee and registered as a charity.
  1. What projects has the TTS Foundation funded to date? The Report of Giving outlines the projects brought to the Tanglin community by the TTS Foundation during 2015/16.
  1. How has the TTS Foundation been funded to date?
TTS Foundation has been funded by an annual diversion from the school's Placement Right income.  This does not form part of the school's operating budget. As projects have become more widespread and ambitious it has been clear that there is a need to create a sustainable future and build an additional income stream.  In 2015/16 the first fundraising campaign took place coinciding with the school's 90th Anniversary. Just over $77,000 was raised and this sum was spent or committed in the same academic year. A summary of these projects can be found in the 2015/16 Report of Giving.

  2. What is the TTS Foundation Fundraising Campaign?
This is a focused period of fundraising for TTS Foundation. It is an annual initiative which takes place in Term 1 for six weeks. Funds raised are then spent or committed in the same academic year.

  3. Why are you asking for donations for TTS Foundation?
The number and scale of projects supported by TTS Foundation has grown steadily so increasing the cost of running these projects and in 2015/16 we got to a point where we wanted to be able to increase the reach of projects ensuring that all children in their time at the school are able to benefit.  To do this we are introducing philanthropic giving to TTS Foundation with a focused period of fundraising.

School fees cover the school's operating costs and ensure that we deliver our curriculum.  The projects funded by the TTS Foundation are not essential to curriculum delivery rather they are exceptional opportunities over and above the curriculum.  As a school we are passionate about giving our students a broad experience that stretches beyond the curriculum.  TTS Foundation enables us to do this.

  4. What are the objectives of the 2016 Fundraising Campaign?
The primary objectives of the Campaign are to raise awareness about TTS Foundation in the community.  We would like the community to clearly understand why Tanglin established the TTS Foundation, to have a good knowledge of the projects that have been funded and what we hope to fund through TTS Foundation Fundraising Campaign.  The level of participation in the Fundraising Campaign i.e. the percentage of families that choose to contribute to the fundraising will be evidence of the success of this objective.  A secondary objective is to set up a robust infrastructure to enable future fundraising.

  5. Is it compulsory that I donate?
No and we wish to stress that donations are voluntary and each family decision is duly respected. Donations should be freely given with no expectations of personal gain other than due thanks and recognition.

  6. Is there a minimum amount I must give if I wish to participate?
The minimum donation amount is SGD 10. You choose what you feel is appropriate for your family to give. Some members of the community have asked for guidance on what is appropriate and the microsite gives details of how specific sums may be used.  As a point of reference, in the 2015/16 fundraising campaign our smallest donation was $10 and our largest $5,000.

  7. Are my donations tax deductible?
TTS Foundation is not registered as an Institute of Public Character so donations are not tax deductible.  At this point in time we understand that this is not an opportunity for Foundations associated with international schools. We will continue to monitor this situation. If this is an area that you think you may be able to offer some expertise please do contact the Development office.

  8. Will my gift make a difference?
Absolutely! Every gift has an impact making a positive difference to Tanglin Trust School's students, families, teachers and community. You will also help the school build a culture of philanthropy for the benefit of present and future generations. We say that individual donations have a collective benefit and we genuinely mean this, many of our projects do not have a high price tag so a few families donating $50 or $100 can be very impactful.

  9. Who will know that I have donated?
We like to thank every donor by including their name in a Report of Giving which will be published to the school community.  It will not include the value of donations. Families have the opportunity to ask for their name not to be included in the Report of Giving. They just need to indicate that they would like to remain anonymous when making their donation.

  10. How will the community be informed of how much the campaign raises?
The community will be updated via the school's regular communications channels. There will also be a 2016/17 Report of Giving that celebrates projects funded and gives details of amounts raised.

  11. What if I want to make a donation after 11th November or later in the academic year?
You are welcome to make a donation to TTS Foundation at any time. The active fundraising period will run for just a six week period.

  12. Can I direct my donation to a certain project or just to the part of the school my child attends?
All donations are 'unrestricted gifts' which means that TTS Foundation management can determine which projects receive funding.  The project groups are identified and agreed with the school's leadership teams so they do represent the school's priorities.  At this stage in the development of TTS Foundation unrestricted gifts give more flexibility it is possible in the future that we may give an opportunity for restricted gifts. Should you wish to financially support an area where you believe students would benefit from enhancements not listed in the TTS Foundation Project list, please contact the Director of Development, for discussion.

  13. What is a parent advocate?
The TTS Foundation Annual Fund Parent Advocate is a volunteer who is available to discuss the Annual fund and answer queries from a parent-to-parent perspective. You can find out who your parent advocate is from this list which is saved on the TTS Parent Portal.

  14. How do I find out more about the 2016 TTS Foundation projects that are to be funded by the Campaign?
Please do have a look around this website for more information or speak to a TTS Foundation advocate. You are also welcome to speak to the Development Office.

  15.  How do the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and the TTS Foundation relate to each other?
Both the PTA and TTS Foundation are dedicated to creating opportunities for our children and community.  From a fundraising perspective the PTA hold a number of community events over the academic year including the summer fete and the Christmas Fair. They raise money for the school from these events which they donate annually to the school to support a variety of projects.  This has included the Junior Master Chef Kitchen, the Infant Early Years Foundation Stage (Nursery and Reception) playground and equipment for Senior School social spaces.

The TTS Foundation does not currently fundraise through events but through a fundraising campaign which is a donation drive for a specific projects that are detailed on the microsite.

In the past TTS Foundation have collaborated with PTA on projects, for instance the Scottish Opera Project in 2013.

  16.  TTS Foundation has been funding projects at Tanglin for a number of years, who decides which projects receive funding? Teachers and students can apply for funding to support projects over and above the curriculum. These individuals or groups can bring a proposal to a panel, which, depending upon the size of the proposal is composed of the CEO, Director of Learning, Director of Development and senior faculty staff members. Projects are assessed under eight learning outcomes and assuming one of these is met with a compelling rationale the projects are eligible for funding. The eight learning outcomes are:
  • Increased awareness of their own strengths and areas for growth
  • Undertaken new challenges
  • Planned and initiated activities
  • Worked collaboratively with others
  • Shown perseverance and commitment in their activities
  • Engaged with issues of global importance
  • Considered the ethical implications of their actions
  • Developed new skills
  1.  The children at Tanglin are privileged why should I give them more?
Each family can make their own decision about whom to contribute to philanthropically and there is no obligation to support TTS Foundation.

The Fundraising campaign is about raising money from the Tanglin Community, for the benefit of the Tanglin Community.  The criteria used in identifying projects that qualify for TTS Foundation support ensure that they all have a significant impact on the personal development of our students.  The specific projects targeted for TTS Foundation support have been chosen to directly benefit as many students as possible across the school. We believe that giving our children these opportunities in their youth will inspire them to give forward as they become leaders in their adult lives.
