In Tanglin’s 100+ year history, the school has been situated at various locations around Singapore. Alumni recall many of those old sites; The Tanglin Club, Raeburn Park, Matheran, and Winchester all elicit fond memories. But no location is more significant to Tanglin’s history than its current site on Portsdown Road. Tanglin has had a school here since 1971 when Weyhill Prep was founded. Being in the same location for 55 years is a significant achievement; most schools in Singapore haven’t been in existence for that many years. In recent years it has become quite common for schools to move premises on the island, which is extremely expensive and highly disruptive for the community.

It was a very happy day for Team Tanglin when the Singaporean government renewed our lease and extended it until 2056! We can remain at our Portsdown Road location for 30 more years. This is a major strategic milestone for the school. It provides the certainty required for the school to continue investing confidently in our facilities, our staff, and, most importantly, the learning experiences of our students. 
 

Concurrently with the extended lease, the school has been granted a lease on additional land adjoining our site on one-north crescent. The size of this new plot of land is 0.5 Hectares which allows us to increase our campus footprint by 11% from 4.66Ha to 5.16Ha. This additional land creates a significant opportunity to enhance our campus and begin planning for the campus of the future.

Planning our future campus began in March 2024, when lease negotiations were first initiated. A tender was conducted, and Perkins Eastman was hired as our masterplan consultants to help shape the overall vision for the school site on Portsdown Road. After multiple rounds of consultations and reviews with Governors and the Executive Team, the masterplan was confirmed on 23 March 2026.

The approved master plan utilising our enlarged campus footprint is shown below. Virtually all our buildings and facilities will be upgraded as part of this phased master planning process, which will be implemented through 2038. Major new buildings include a new Senior School, a new Sports Centre, and an Early Learning Centre. Existing buildings will also be renovated and repurposed.

The first phase of the new masterplan will be the construction of the New Senior School building. A tender was conducted and after multiple rounds of presentations, P&T Consultants and Wilkinson Eyre were appointed in August 2026. P&T Consultants were the architects for the Tanglin Centenary Building, UWC East and North London Collegiate, while Wilkinson Eyre has recent builds at Oxford, Cambridge, The Dyson STEAM Building at Gresham’s School, and Gardens by the Bay in Singapore.

The concept design for the Senior School building can be seen above. This purpose-built Senior School will include outstanding new facilities for science, technology, engineering, economics, entrepreneurship, and mathematics. This new building will support the kind of interdisciplinary, research-rich and problem-solving education that young people increasingly need. This new building will be the largest building on campus; with 12 levels and a total GFA of over 23,500 square meters, it is planned to be 50% larger than the Tanglin Centenary Building.
