Outdoor Education

For almost a hundred years a Tanglin education has been based on the shared understanding that outdoor learning and time spent in nature is essential for the health and wellbeing of every child.

This starts with the introduction of learning about nature and exploring the outdoors in our Forest School site on campus, and it builds up through excursions and day trips in our neighbourhood to our very first residential camps and ‘sleepover’ experience in Singapore for Junior children. Our Middle School students enjoy a cohort camp as an essential part of their curriculum and when they reach the upper school we offer all students the opportunity to choose an expedition or residential project of their choice. In the Sixth Form at the end of Year 12, we offer a much wider choice of expeditions and service-learning projects – all with an emphasis on sustainability, exploration and building community. We recognise that it is our responsibility to prepare all our students for an unpredictable future and to help them develop the confidence they need to thrive and flourish as they progress to the next stage of their lives, whether it be University overseas, National Service or entering the world of work. This spark of confidence in our young people is the hallmark of a happy and successful Tanglin education.
