Music
Music at Tanglin is inclusive, enjoyable and both aspirational as well as inspirational. Through offering a broad range of opportunities and by sharing our passion for music, we enable our students to be creative and to thrive whatever their individual interests.
As a department, we believe in, and actively promote the transforming impact that music can have on our students’ lives whether they be a keen academic musician, a talented instrumentalist or simply someone who is inquisitive and wishes to learn more about music.
With around 680 instrumental lessons taught every week by a dedicated team of Visiting Music Teachers, from beginner classes through to Diploma-standard and beyond, we truly aim to cater to everyone's needs.
A thriving, vibrant and energetic Music programme
In addition to instrumental lessons, over 50 co-curricular ensembles take place on a weekly basis, ranging from beginner ensembles through to Symphonic Winds, Symphony Orchestra and elite groups such as the Chamber Orchestra and other chamber ensembles. There are also a good number of choirs which meet weekly to perform a wide repertoire of music. Additionally we also have a thriving Rock n Pop programme with regular opportunities given for performances throughout the year.
An Abundance of Performance Opportunities
From pop-up concerts around the campus, regular informal soloists’ concerts in our new Recital Room to our more formal Chamber and Solo Concerts and large-scale Ensemble Concerts held in school or at one of the local Concert Halls, there is an abundance of performance opportunities for our students at Tanglin. An Annual Choral Concert takes place at the prestigious Victoria Concert. Tanglin musicians have also recently performed at other fantastic venues across Singapore including the National Gallery, the Botanic Gardens and St George’s Church.
