Film Studies

Filmmaking is a collaborative process that promotes student-centred learning, a spirit of creative freedom and a capacity to engage in logistical problem-solving.

We encourage our students to explore and utilise the wealth of media creation tools available to them during pre-production, production and post-production stages. Used by GCSE, A Level and IB film and media students, our purpose-built Media Suite at Tanglin contains film production hardware and software across two studio classrooms plus a colour grading room, a sound design room, a photography studio and a forty-seat cinema. An open area contains forty Apple work stations and a film theory library. 

Students engage with a variety of media forms, developing the creative and practical skills of critical analysis and evaluation, location planning and people management. We regularly host industry professionals who share their knowledge and experience of working in media-related fields, such as animation, visual effects, sound design, producing and directing. Our aim is to ensure that students develop a high degree of audio-visual literacy and an awareness of the huge range of media-related employment opportunities available.

Students can participate in film co-curricular activities (CCA’s) such as CAS TV, Film Production, and a World Cinema Club, as well as regional competitions. In 2017, Tanglin launched the Across Asia Youth Film Festival (AAYFF) to help emerging film makers from schools and institutions across Asia reach the broadest possible audience and to generate international dialogue through their films. The festival has since thrived.
