Progress & Reporting

We are constantly seeking to strengthen our partnership with parents and one of the ways we do this is through organising regular opportunities to give feedback through sharing data and face-to-face Parent Teacher Student Conferences.

At the start of the year, we have orientation sessions for new families; these are repeated termly for those new to Tanglin. We also have Information Evenings for all parents in August. This is an opportunity to find out about year group routines, special events and expectations.

In the Senior School, we have a ‘Meet the Tutor Day’ where parents have an opportunity to meet their child’s tutor if they are new to them. The tutors are the teachers who oversees the daily pastoral care of the students. This happens early in Term 1 to establish positive relations between home and school and to ensure that any teething problems are discussed.   

We hold formal Parent Teacher Student Conferences (PTSCs) in all year groups to review progress on an individual basis, with students expected to take a proactive role in these discussions. We place particular value on PTSCs because they allow direct dialogue and clarification with immediate next steps for students. In the Middle School, students receive two reports ever year.

The first, issued in Term 1, focuses solely on students’ approaches to learning, as these provide the most reliable indicator of progress and engagement. The second report, in Term 3, moves to a broader academic judgement, including attainment grades based on our 3-14 curriculum as well as an indication of the student’s approaches to learning in each subject. Both reports are accompanied by a PTSC.
