All Round Sporting Success for Tanglin Lions

Last weekend saw The Tanglin Lions win and compete in three different sports, within two major school sports tournaments, across three different countries.

Starting in Singapore, Tanglin Rugby put on a stellar performance with our 14&U and 19&U teams winning the SSC 7s Schools and Colleges tournament at The Padang. Our 14&U team beat a strong ACS(I) 19-5, before the 19&U overcame UWCE 15-10 in a tense finish to cap a thoroughly successful tournament for Tanglin. The 17&U squad almost made it a treble but finished 2nd behind deserved winners ACS (I). A huge well done to all the boys and coaches for their efforts throughout the weekend.

The annual SEASAC competition took the girls and boys football teams to Bangkok, where the Tanglin Boys were runners-up at the SEASAC Football tournament at Harrow Bangkok. After leading the final with just 5 minutes to go, the boys lost out narrowly in extra time after a hard-fought game against UWCD. Tanglin Boys B team finished on a high with a deserved win over South Saigon International School, finishing in 9th place.

Congratulations to our SEASAC Girls Football team who were crowned SEASAC Champions. Undefeated throughout, this tournament was the 7th success in the last 8 competitions demonstrating the dominance of Tanglin Girls Football at SEASAC over the last 10 years.

In Kuala Lumper, the Tanglin Girls Volleyball claimed a well-deserved bronze medal at the SEASAC Div 2 tournament. After dominating their pool and a strong showing in the quarter-final, the girls despite struggling against tough opposition in the semis showed real purpose to recover and win the 3rd place-play-off.

Boys Volleyball at Tanglin continues to grow and impress, and at this year’s SEASAC tournament the boys were rewarded for their efforts with a 5th place finish and winners of the Plate.  As well as receiving the Sportsmanship Award, the boys can look forward to competing in Division 1 next year.

We are very proud of the performance of all our student athletes, and especially the way they presented themselves and embodied the Tanglin values of Respect, Responsibility and Purpose both on and off the court and pitch. Go Lions!
