The Chandran Studio was filled with energy, excitement and outstanding musicianship yesterday evening as almost 50 pianists from across the Infant, Junior and Senior Schools came together for this term’s Piano Concert. Rob Hall, Director of Music, shares more with us.

Featuring an imaginative programme of duets and six-hand piano works, the concert celebrated not only individual talent but also the joy of collaboration. Students of all ages shared the stage, performing side by side in a wonderful demonstration of teamwork, communication and musical partnership.

The programme was both ambitious and entertaining, taking the audience on a journey through a wide variety of styles. From classical favourites by Schubert, Grieg and Chabrier to the infectious rhythms of Scott Joplin’s Maple Leaf Rag, the performers displayed remarkable versatility and confidence. The lighter-hearted character of the concert proved especially popular, with lively works such as When the Saints Go Rockin’ In!, Mission Impossible Theme and Pirates of the Caribbean Medley delighting the audience.
 

A particular highlight was the inclusion of several arrangements of video game music, reflecting the diverse musical interests of our students and bringing a contemporary flavour to the evening, and tying in with the cross-phase orchestral and bands concerts held earlier in the year. 

The concert was a wonderful showcase of the thriving piano community at Tanglin and the impressive progress made by students throughout the school. Events such as these provide invaluable opportunities for young musicians to develop their performance skills while sharing their love of music with others.

Special thanks must also go to the team of Piano tutors for their commitment and hard work, and in particular to Head of Piano, Celine Tan, whose leadership, vision and enthusiasm helped make the concert such a memorable success.
