On Saturday, 24 September, nearly 100 students from across the School participated in the annual Hackathon. The Senior students attempted to develop solutions to problems based around the theme of 'Building Bridges and Education'. They had 7 hours to create a product and pitch the solution via a presentation in front of a large audience and under the scrutiny of three judges.
“The end-products were judged on their ingenuity, how effectively they addressed a problem, the quality of the presentation and how advanced the programming of their product was. We were all very impressed,” said David Fourie, Assistant Head of Faculty (Maths & Computing) who was one of the judges.

Also as part of the event, nine children from the Infant Coding CCA and some of Junior School's most enthusiastic coding students had the pleasure of joining the Seniors in the Hackathon. Working in small teams, the Infant children were given the chance of creating a short animation based on the theme of the event. Using the Scratch Junior app, the children had fun creating characters and scenes and then coding movements and interactions.
It was a fantastic experience, with the younger children being supported by Year 13 students who helped guide them through the process. Each group then presented their creations in front of an audience of Senior students.
Thanks to the support of the Tanglin Foundation, the event succeeded in bringing all three Tanglin schools together for a special syntactical Saturday of coding.
