Innovative Minds Shine: SC Ventures Tanglin Programme Celebrates Second Successful Year

The Institute, in collaboration with SC Ventures (SCV), Standard Chartered’s innovation, fintech investment and ventures arm, has successfully completed its second year of the SC Ventures Tanglin programme. The 16-week Intrapreneurship Programme provides students with a real-world learning opportunity with expert practitioners in industry, which is an integral part of the Institute's vision.

The pitches hosted at the Pay Pal offices were the final part of a more extensive journey, which started with the SCV team receiving 32 idea submissions from students across Year 12, before being whittled down to just 4 teams. Each team completed the SC Ventures Intrapreneurship bootcamp, tailored for Tanglin, and received coaching and mentoring from SCV innovation coaches led by Julia Erakovic, the SCV Intrapreneurship Lead. The coaches worked with each team to help them test and refine their ideas into credible business solutions using design thinking and business modelling skills, conduct independent research, and create a pitch for real venture builders.

Students underwent a mock pitch stage before the final day of presentations hosted at the PayPal offices in front of an extensive panel of SCV, PayPal, Argor Capital, and Microsoft business leaders. With senior Tanglin staff and parents also in attendance, the students were challenged to pitch to a diverse audience.

Craig Considine spoke at the event and highlighted that the SC Ventures programme makes students ‘tackle real-world problems’ as it encompasses current issues such as the balance of finance and sustainability, and the importance of being open to change in today’s global marketplace. The panellists were impressed by the final presentations, Julia Erakovic summed up the event perfectly by saying: ‘The pitching was top class! It was a real pleasure to support Tanglin again. It is great to see our Intrapreneurship Programme teach these students to take risks, be resilient, adapt and learn from failure in creating their solutions – exactly what is needed for the next generation of entrepreneurs. We hope to see them pursue their passions and take their ideas into reality.’
