Yesterday’s Institute Aviation Workshop with industry experts from BOC Aviation and Rolls-Royce challenged our Year 12 students with a central question: How can the aviation industry transition to more sustainable fuel and energy sources while keeping air travel reliable, affordable and energy-secure for the long term?
Geoff Grier, Delphine Sze, ICIR from BOC Aviation and Alastair Sim from Rolls-Royce Singapore shared insights on current industry trends, scientific innovation in engine design, and sustainable aviation fuel, alongside a broader perspective on sustainability in aviation. Working in groups representing roles across the industry — from engineers to policymakers to investors — students quickly moved beyond simple solutions, grappling with trade-offs around cost, scale, infrastructure and engineering constraints.
We greatly appreciate ongoing support from our industry experts who support our annual Aviation Workshop, creating more opportunities for students to connect classroom learning with real-world challenges.
