What a fantastic way to begin the new academic year in Tanglin Music! Last night, our team of Instrumental Music Tutors took to the stage for a concert that showcased not only the extraordinary talent within our teaching team but also their infectious love of making music.
From the energy and sparkle of Daniel Speer’s Die Bänkelsängerlieder and Tom Kubis’s jazz numbers, through beautiful performances of Mendelssohn, Piazzolla, Schönberg and Menken, to the colour and variety of ensembles, the programme was wide-ranging, engaging and full of surprises. There was something for everyone, and plenty of reminders that great music-making can be both hugely accomplished and enormous fun.
What made the evening particularly special was seeing our tutors not simply as teachers, but as outstanding musicians in their own right. Their artistry, enthusiasm and commitment were evident throughout every performance.
One audience member summed up the evening beautifully, describing it as “thoroughly enjoyable and utterly inspiring”, with “such a visible love of music-making”. They also reflected on how fortunate our students are to have such talented teachers and role models.
Our instrumental tutors play a hugely important role in the musical life of Tanglin. Every week, they inspire hundreds of students, nurture developing musicians, encourage curiosity, creativity and confidence, and help young people discover the joy that comes from making music together.
Last night was a wonderful reminder of just what an exceptional team we have—and a brilliant start to another exciting year of music at Tanglin.
