Musical Sophistication

On Wednesday 10 June, students from Year 6 and above presented an outstanding Formal Solo and Chamber Music Recital in the Recital Room, performing a programme of considerable ambition and musical sophistication. Rob Hall, Director of Music, shares more.

The evening featured repertoire by composers including Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Rachmaninoff, and Piazzolla, as well as demanding works for flute, saxophone, violin, and voice. Students demonstrated a high level of technical command, tackling challenging repertoire with confidence, precision, and stylistic awareness.

Particularly striking was the musical maturity evident throughout the recital. Performers communicated the character and drama of their chosen works with conviction, combining secure technique with thoughtful interpretation. The duets required careful listening, sensitivity, and shared musical understanding, resulting in performances of real polish and character.

The recital was a testament to the commitment and hard work of Tanglin’s young musicians, particularly at such a busy stage of the academic year. Their willingness to embrace challenging repertoire and perform it to such a high standard reflects their dedication - congratulations to all involved on a memorable evening of music-making.
