Senior School Production - Macbeth

After the success of Romeo and Juliet and Titus Andronicus, Tanglin Trust School continued its Shakespearean tour with a production of Macbeth on Tuesday and Wednesday. Macbeth’s historical context is fascinating, written as a response to King James 1 taking the throne in England and his obsession with witchcraft. The themes of ambition, power and manipulation continue to resonate. This group of performers involved students from Year 8 to Year 13, with double cast main roles, Vedaant and Terri were Macbeth and Lady Macbeth on Tuesday, with Charlie and Ava playing the happiest married couple in a Shakespeare play on Wednesday.

“Performing the role of Macbeth in our recent school production was a new challenge that excited me, mainly because throughout the years of me doing drama in Tanglin, I had never performed the lead role throughout an entire play. It was very worth it; after doing this school production, I could genuinely imagine myself acting in theatre for the rest of my life and being happy. The main challenge I had from Macbeth was learning the abundance of lines; however, the solution was easy: repetition. It is the simplest and best advice for getting better at anything. Understanding that Shakespeare is known to write his characters in a way that easily allows actors to interpret his characters differently, I enjoyed creating my own version of Macbeth. From doing Drama in Tanglin, my passion for live theatre has grown; the unique immersive quality of studying drama at Tanglin is very special.” Said Vedaant (Year 13).
