The Tanglin Finance Conference is a fantastic annual event organised by the student-led Finance Society. Dedicated to empowering young people with financial literacy, the Society aims to equip students with the tools and confidence to make informed financial decisions through engaging workshops, competitions, and what has become a flagship conference. Now in its third year, the event hosted at The Institute was made possible with support from the Foundation. This year’s conference was the biggest to date, attracting over 180 participants - including parents, students, and teachers - from more than 10 schools across Singapore, highlighting its growing impact and collaborative spirit.
The theme of this year’s conference, Dollars Beyond Borders, reflected the evolving landscape of finance, where money, markets, and economies operate on a global scale. From thought-provoking debates on financial innovation to case studies about dollarisation, and a thrilling 75-question quiz that kept participants guessing, students had the valuable opportunity to explore new perspectives on economics and build connections with peers. They were challenged to think critically throughout the day; one student noted that the debates encouraged them “to explore global policies and helped [them] improve [their] public speaking.”
Presenting at the event were two established industry professionals: Abhishek Mehrotra, Managing Director at HSBC Private Banking, and Abhilash Narayan, Investment Strategist at HSBC Private Banking. Their engaging exploration of macroeconomics and emerging global financial markets inspired attendees to consider economics on a larger scale. They also led a meaningful discussion on future career opportunities, encouraging students to think about investment frameworks and long-term aspirations.
The conference continues to grow as a platform for young people to explore the world of finance and economics. We can’t wait to see what 2026 will bring!
