We welcomed back the Tanglin Thrift once again. This popular event amongst students has become something of a new tradition in the Senior School. The 2025 Tanglin Thrift was led by students as part of the Metanoia Sustainability Action Group (SAG), a Senior School initiative which works to help achieve Tanglin’s sustainably  goals. This particular initiative is focusing on ways to reduce wastage across Tanglin uniform & sports kit and help encourage the importance of recycling pre-loved clothes amongst the Tanglin community.

The students worked together to collect and organise the clothes at drop-off locations around the senior school, advertise the event, sort through all the donations and ensure the event ran smoothly on the day. This year they also included second hand Tanglin uniforms and sports kits to be sold in the event, which had a high turnout with lots of happy students heading home with a new outfit!

This year’s event raised a total of $712 which will be donated to the Plant A Tree programme by Garden City Fund who aim to plant one million trees across Singapore by 2030, helping to increase efforts to add greenery within urban infrastructure. The remaining clothes will be donated to Caring for Cambodia and The Salvation Army. The SAG team are looking forward to working together on other sustainable initiatives which encourage recycling within the Tanglin community; offering an alternative to the detrimental ‘fast fashion’ and highlight the importance of the ‘circular economy’.
