The Berrick Theatre is not the normal habitat for a huge jungle Gorilla, but he was quickly made to feel at home by Year 5, who with the guidance of TeachRex learnt about Thomas the Gorilla’s life and experiences in the jungle. It was a truly memorable learning moment as the children played and interacted with Thomas, and in the process learnt about his environmental challenges and the importance of conservation. Mr Parsonage, Head of Year 5, explained that ‘this eye-opening and fun workshop launches our Pristine Planet topic. The creative learning workshop hosted by TeachRex gave the children the opportunity to meet Thomas the Gorilla, practise their spelling and grammar, and record videos using green screen techniques’. Later in the term, Year 5 will go on to record podcasts and write discussion texts, learn about different biomes of the world and also life cycles of animals and plants.
