Just three weeks into the new school term, a team of Tanglin Scholars headed to Thailand for the 2023 Bangkok Global Round of The World Scholar’s Cup.
Tanglin has a long history of participation in this international academic competition which promotes inter-interdisciplinary learning and critical thinking among students. Stretching over five days, it is designed to encourage students to explore a breadth of subjects, including science, history, literature, and the arts.
At Tanglin, the Scholars’ Society CCA has helped students prepare for the competition, through activities such as researching the extensive WSC curriculum, debating practice, and help with structuring their writing. Students in years 8-10 will be welcome to join this Society from Term 2.
Our Tanglin scholars drew on their experience from last year’s Singapore round of the World Scholar’s Cup and scored an impressive range of wins, facing off against students as old as 18. Although they found the level of competition in Bangkok a step up from Singapore, it was a great learning experience for them, with all participants battling hard.
‘My experience of going to the World Scholar’s Cup was an unforgettable journey of intellectual growth, and it greatly expanded my cultural knowledge and appreciation. The academic aspects of the competition were very thought provoking, if challenging. Although, with the immense help we received from staff and students alike, my team and I were able to overcome any challenges we faced. Moreover, it was a truly unique opportunity to be able to explore a new city whilst meeting hundreds of students from a multitude of different countries.’ Aavienda (Y11).
