Year 5 Camp Challenge

The children of Year 5 have had a wonderful week. Each day, two bases made the short trip to Camp Challenge, situated on Sentosa. As newly formed classes this year, the children were excited to get to know their peers outside of the classroom. Teachers had a focus on teambuilding, collaborative skills and most importantly, an opportunity for lots of fun!

Kayaking was a favourite for many and provided an exciting opportunity to learn and work as a team. The giggles and laughter from Year 5 were audible from the beachfront as the children figured out the most efficient way to communicate and direct one another.

Raft building was another popular activity. The second water activity involved the children working in small groups to create, test, and race their raft creations in the sea. Rubber tyres, poles, string, and rope were some of the items they used to create their floating masterpieces. Year 5 displayed creativity and teamwork skills and supported each other bravely through the race.

Outdoor cooking was a creative activity for the children. They used a portable ‘tommy cooker’ stove to create their dishes. The ingredients were purchased using a budget, allowing the students to test their mathematical prowess.

The fourth activity was archery tag: a game involving firing soft arrows to hit the enemy team! This game allowed them to practise their hand-eye coordination, balance, coordination and resilience skills. Children took great pleasure in targeting arrows at their friends and, even more so, their teachers.

The activities ensured all students could participate and were facilitated skilfully by our trusted provider, Camp Challenge. The singing on the bus back to school was a real indicator of the fun and team spirit created on our first day trip out of school. A huge thank you to all those who supported us and to the Outdoor Education team for their organisation.
