There was excitement in the Junior School with the invasion of the Year 3 Vikings who fully immersed themselves into their theme day. Alongside a sea of fur, shields and helmets, there was even a Viking long ship anchored in the unit! From investigating the chronology of the period through team games on the iPad, to personalising their own shields with runes and creating some intricate Viking weaving, the children thoroughly enjoyed the experience. In true Viking style, the children unleashed their energy during their Viking themed PE activities which were led by some ferocious looking PE staff.
Thanks to the TTS Foundation, spell-binding storyteller, Roger Jenkins, captivated the children with Viking-themed tales in our role play area, which was transformed into a Viking store and dragon nursery. One child said: "The storytelling was really fun. This is the best day in Year 3 ever!" Roger commented: "It's wonderful to come to such a special environment. Telling a story to one class at a time really helps to create personal connections with no distractions. The children are left hanging on every word and my use of their props makes this session so impactful."
It was certainly a memorable day for Year 3, filled with awe and wonder, as well as being a terrific launch to this term's humanities learning where the children will be pondering the big question: were the Vikings vicious?
