Tanglin Junior School are delighted to have been awarded the Historical Association Silver Quality Mark, the only school in Singapore to receive this award.
At Tanglin, we continually analyse our curriculum and enrichment activities to ensure that students have rigorous, balanced and progressive programmes that prepare them for the next stage of their learning journey. This Quality Mark recognises and celebrates the tremendous efforts of our staff and the high-quality history provision in our school.
Key strengths identified in the report include:
- History enjoys a high status within the school and there is a clear continuum of progress in the subject across Infants, Juniors and Seniors.
- The school challenges and inspires students in history and they are pushed to do their best.
- Students work well in advance of usual expectations and are stretched and stimulated as independent learners.
- History enriches the curriculum life of the school effectively through visits, developing higher order thinking, encouraging and appreciating the value of independent learning, demonstrating how historical knowledge is open to debate and discussion, and bringing in expertise to enrich the curriculum from outside the school.
The Quality Mark provides a framework to support schools in development and improvement, and we will continue to encourage creative and critical thinking about history provision at Tanglin.
Head of Humanities, Junior School, Martin Stevens said: "Being the only school in Singapore to achieve this award feels great. The wording of the report reaffirms the enthusiasm, commitment and quality of the provision of history here at Tanglin Junior School; it is both a pleasure and privilege to be able to lead the subject with such dedicated teachers and students."
