There was a ringing of bells in the air today as Nursery children had lots of fun at the TTS Foundation Blazing Balance Bikes Launch. Riding a bike isn't easy, so it's wonderful to be able to provide all children in the Early Years the opportunity to learn to ride a bike. These essential skills will continue through the Infant School making it a smooth transition to pedal bikes. As Peter Derby-Crook (CEO) said: "There are many benefits to being able to ride a bike, from getting fit to being able to get to different places. However, we also know that learning is enhanced by the ability to balance and co-ordinate."
Attending the launch, Mr Kong Yit San (ACEO, National Parks Board) added: "Cycling activities are encouraging for the community at large. These young children will be able to teach our community how to respect each other and to ride safely in our parks."
Thank you to the TTS Foundation which has kindly funded this project, and to Harriet Martin and Arifah Gafoor who have led the programme.
Here's what a few Nursery children had to say:
"We can go really fast safely!"
"We go around the cones. When we've finished we put the bikes down carefully."
"I like putting my helmet on."
"When there is a red light we have to stop, but when the green light comes on, we can go!"
