On Saturday, 24 March, Tanglin Trust School's Senior Music Ensembles showed just how well young musicians can command a stage and captivate a crowd with their 'Botanical Beats' concert, a selection of popular music performed in a range of musical styles at the Singapore Botanic Gardens. It was the perfect family evening out with the students entertaining an animated audience who came with picnics, babes in arms and a party mood to fill the grassy slopes around the Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage as the sun set to Botanical Beats.
The programme of music ranged from a Daft Punk Medley by the Senior Orchestra, Symphony No. 40 (first movement) by the Chamber Orchestra, through to a rendition of Red Hot Chili Peppers' 'Under the Bridge' by the Guitar Group and Glee's 'Don't Stop Believing' by Six of One, taking in a taste of Africa along the way with the Afro-Latin Band and finishing with the Senior Chamber Choir singing Clean Bandit's 'Rather Be' and a wonderful Michael Jackson Medley from the Big Band. Thanks to the Junior Chamber Choir who also made a guest appearance, to Helen Owain (Head of Senior Music) for bringing it all together, to the TTS Foundation who supported the staging – and of course, to the Singapore Botanic Gardens for this wonderful opportunity.
