Sixth Form Pastoral Care

We pride ourselves on the exceptional care, guidance and support we give our students. We strive to ensure that every student is known well by a member of staff, be that a tutor, Head of Year, Assistant Head of Year, mentor, counsellor, subject teacher, sports coach or any other adult on the staff. We also work in partnership with parents to support our students throughout the Sixth Form.

The first point of contact is the Tutor, who sees his/her students every day for 20 minutes during tutor time and once a week for PSHCE (Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education) and gets to know each student as an individual.

As a pastoral team, we also work with the Heads of Year to monitor students' academic progress and pastoral wellbeing and to ensure that the school’s standards and values are being maintained. The Heads of Year will contact a student's family if there are any concerns about their progress or wellbeing.

The Assistant Heads of Year work with the Heads of Year and have specific responsibilities according to the cohort: this may be the year group trip, uniform, attendance/punctuality, mentoring, student leadership and year group social events. The Assistant Heads of Year also work closely with members of the Student Council/Lead Team.

The Assistant Head in charge of pastoral care works closely with the Senior School Leadership Team, the pastoral team as well as the school counselling department and the careers and university guidance counsellors, to guide students through each stage of their time with us. Key markers from Year 11 and into the Sixth Form include guidance on Post-16 Pathways, university applications and preparation for life beyond school.
