Based at the heart of the Sixth Form Centre, our Careers & University Guidance Team provides all the information, support and guidance students need to make the right decision about their future academic or career journey.
It is essential that students have the chance to explore and recognise their skills and potential, and to understand what makes them feel fulfilled. Students have access to bespoke one-to-one guidance with a dedicated counsellor to help them decide which course and higher education establishment best fits them, including understanding different countries application systems such as UCAS, Common App, OUAC and many more. Guidance on preparing personal statements, college essays, mock interviews, and moral and practical support on results day is always on hand!
Although most of our students go on to higher education, if this is not for them or if they wish to take a Gap Year, we have a vast amount of information and many resources to help them plan their next steps. Our Careers Education Programme is delivered primarily through the Senior School PSHCE and Life Skills curriculum. Starting as early Year 7, students are provided with opportunities to explore the world of work and to meet professionals from many different industries and careers. In Year 10, students undertake work experience, and can undergo a variety of psychometric and aptitude tests to help clarify skill sets and interests.
As well as regularly hosting a worldwide range of university representatives, throughout the year we also welcome fascinating speakers from all walks of life who we hope will enrich students understanding of life beyond education. Our dedicated counsellors go in search of new and interesting degrees and scholarship opportunities and in the summer of Year 12, we offer a UK Universities Tour.
Reflecting the strong British ethos of the school, a majority of our graduates will attend university in the UK. However, increasing numbers study in North America, Continental Europe, and Australasia. The Careers & University Guidance Team has dedicated counsellors with a vast experience of the higher education opportunities and application systems worldwide. A counsellor is assigned to a student at the start of their Sixth Form experience and will support them wherever they choose to apply. The majority of our students secure their university of first choice.
