September 2019 Sport Round-up

U19 Touch Rugby Training with Peter Bell

In September, Australian Women's Open Coach, Peter Bell, worked with Tanglin's U19 Touch Rugby team. Peter has held positions on the National Talent Identification Panel and the National Coaching Panel in Australia, and under his guidance, the Australian Women's Open side claimed four World Cup titles. This was a great opportunity for our players to learn from Peter's tips, insights, values and passion for the sport, in their build up to the Brisbane Touch Tournament.

UWCE & SAIS Invitational Football & Volleyball Tournaments

Ahead of the Season 1 SEASAC tournaments in November, our 19&U Football and Volleyball players competed in tournaments at SAIS and UWCE, on the 6 and 28 September, respectively. While the invitationals afforded all our players valuable tournament practise, it was particularly pleasing to see our Girls Football team continue their fine form, beating the host school, SAIS, 7-1 in the first final, followed by a string of comprehensive wins on the east coast to ensure that the Tanglin girls also claimed first place in the second of the two tournaments.

SCC Rugby Qualifiers

All three Tanglin Lions teams participated in the SCC 7s qualifiers during the week beginning 23 September. The U14, U16 and U18 tournaments determine which four international schools progress through to the finals, which are played out in front of a large audience on the Padang on 8 and 9 November.

Our U16s and U18s, after winning all their games, finished as comprehensive winners of their respective tournaments, qualifying as the top ranked international school. Unfortunately, for our U14s it wasn't to be their year, as they were edged out in unfortunate circumstances at the quarter final stage.

Tanglin were proud to host the U18 qualifying tournament.

Friends of Sport First Meeting of the Year

Tanglin's Friends of Sport held their first meeting of the new academic year last night. Our recently appointed Coaching and Sports Science Director, Dr Richard Shuttleworth, addressed a large audience of parents and answered questions on his personal coaching beliefs and the work he has undertaken with high performance athletes, teams and organisations around the world. The event was also an opportunity to receive suggestions from the school community on how to support and enhance Team Tanglin, ensuring the best possible sports environment for developing our children.

Re-launch of the Tanglin Lions

Excitement 'ROARED' around the school at the start of the new academic year as we proudly re-launched the Tanglin Lions. From this point forward, Tanglin sports teams will play as the Tanglin Lions. All students, all teams, all sports, across the entire school. We are the Tanglin Lions!
